In 2013, I worked for 5 months at Metrolina Greenhouses in Huntersville, NC as a Vic and Margaret Ball Intern Scholar. Every day I rode my bicycle through the flower filled greenhouses; it was the most surreal and best experiences of my life.
I was one of about 600 employees in 160 acres of greenhouses; the largest single-site heated greenhouse in the US.
I witnessed and used all kinds of innovative production techniques and automation.
I showed my several international housemates the little bit of America that I could; and they shared parts of their culture with me. We visited Washington, DC, Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, U.S. National Whitewater Center, Chimney Rock State Park, and Carowinds.
My experience there was just as amazing as the place itself. I grew a lot from the experience, professionally and personally.
I made this book with pictures that I took and the report I wrote for the American Floral Endowment. Shutterfly is my favorite website for customize-able gifts! It’s so easy to use, and you can save your work like a document.
